Hello, I'm Meryl, 61 from Northamptonshire. I've been diabetic for about 20 years & after losing weight I was on the brink of remission. But in July this year I had severe complications (high temp, bp & blood sugar) due to Covid & was in the CCU of my local hospital for 11 days, on antiviral & insulin drips. I am slowly recovering but now have to inject insulin twice a day & my readings are still not stable. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Hi Meryl, sorry to hear you were so poorly. Being so well managed and on the brink of remission but be frustrating, especially as you're sugars are causing you some challenges. It is common for sugar levels to increase after having illnesses and infections. Covid can really have a lingering affect. What insulin and dosages are you taking?

Welcome @medge 🙂 Sorry to hear about your nasty bout of Covid. Covid can cause high sugars even if it’s much milder, as I know from experience.

Can you give us the exact name of your insulin, including any letters or numbers after the name?

What kind of blood glucose numbers are you seeing?

Sorry to hear about the change in your diabetes following your nasty time with Covid19 @medge :(

Hope you can find a way to get the insulin to work better for you. It sounds like you may be on a mixed, or long-acting only?

You may find it more flexible and adjustable to be on basal:bolus (multiple daily injections), where you take a different insulin for meals and corrections, along with a slowrelease ‘background’ insulin.

What exact type of Humulin? There will be a letter or letter and numbers after the name. There are a number of different types of Humulin, with different insulins and profiles of action.
