At risk of diabetes
Ive looked at the webside and think I may have T3C Diabetes. My nurse at GP practise has just taken a Diabetes blood test but from my reading this site it looks like theres a different test for T3C . Is that correct? I have had part of my pancreas removed in 2000 but just recently Ive started to feel exhausted and shaky and hungry. I will make an appointment with my GP asap but in the meantime would like to get as much info as possible. I hope someone can help. Thanks in advance

Hi @Footfairy and welcome to the forum - sorry to hear you've not been feeling great - certainly if you've had surgery to remove part of your pancreas this could lead to a Type 3c diagnosis - Next steps will be to analyse your blood test - they won't be able to do anything until they have the results of that - I would imagine they have tested to get your HbA1c number which gives the best indication of any form of diabetes (I's basically an average of glucose in your blood over the last 3 months) - but good idea to consult your GP and advise them fully of all the symptoms you've been suffering so they can make an informed decision - there are many users on this forum who are Type 3c who I'm sure will be happy to answer any questions you may have (better than I can!) so you are certainly not alone - wishing you all the best

Hello and welcome @Footfairy,
As already said the 1st step is to clarify if your blood glucose is sufficiently raised to give you a basic diagnosis if being pre-diabetic or diabetic. From that start point will come consideration of what Type of Diabetes applies.

If (and this is only an if at this point) you do have some form of Diabetes then the cause could be as a result of the partial panc'y surgery you have had back in 2000. But I am not in any way medically qualified and I'm cautious about leaping in to say it will be the cause. Whatever caused that surgery 24+ years ago might be the origin of all of this, OR (if you do have Diabetes) it might be just an additional factor in a possibly more traditional diagnosis of Type 2 - and the actual cause should lead to a proper diagnosis ot Type, from which will come appropriate treatment.

So, alarming as it might seem, waiting for that blood test result is absolutely necessary before trying to offer further thoughts. Meanwhile I hope you can pace yourself through this next (hopefully very short) wait and manage the exhausted, shaky and hungry symptoms. An HbA1c shouldn't take very long; getting a GP appointment might be a different matter. Meanwhile, would you like to tell us why the partial pancreatectomy was needed back in 2000 and have you had, since then, any repeat of those original symptoms?

Evening FF and welcome to the forum.
As Roland has said the first thing is to get your HbA1c which will determine your diabetes status and then you can be advised the best course of action.
It is possible that your part pancreas removal has brought about any diabetes related issue even though your surgery was a very long time ago but it may be a totally separate development.
Your specific diagnosis is important as it determines the best approach to manage your condition but the more you can tell us like why your pancreas was part removed, which part was removed and have you had any pancreatic issues since like acute or chronic pancreatitis. Are you on Creon?
Best wishes
