Possible liver dump?

Hi,

Just trying to work something out.

Yesterday my Gliclazide was reduced from 2x 80mg twice a day to 1x 80mg once a day. I'm lucky for a Type 2 to have some testing strips on prescription so brought my kit into work to check what happens to my levels through the day.

I should have checked when I got up but overslept and forgot! Anyway had usual breakfast of plain porridge. Checked levels at work 2 hours later, particularly as I was feeling like my blood sugar was a bit low (bit shaky & cold, also massively hungry which is unusual). It was 9.7😱! That is a high number for me recently. Usually when it is high I feel 'foggy', certainly not shaky and ravenous.

I'm thinking somehow my liver dumped despite reduced meds? Could the 'low' symptoms still show despite result being high?

Any advice gratefully received!!

Sally

The symptoms sound like a false hypo, which usually happens when your BG drops quickly but not into real hypo territory. With a change in medication, and your liver and pancreas playing pat-a-cake, it’s hard to tell.

I’d wait and see if it all settles down, which shouldn’t take too long, as your system gets used to the change.🙂

Thanks for the reply. My level had gone down to 5 before lunch, then spiked back up to 9.8 again after 2 hours then down to 4.1 three hours after that. So pretty much all over the place! Hoping it is just the change in meds and does settle down soon.

Hope things settle for you over the coming days @SallyDucati

Though you are surprised by the amount of variation, if the peak is at 9.8 and you are dropping into 4s and 5s within hours that would be a pretty decent effort in my book. Obviously the lower the spike the better - but even non-Ds have a bit of ‘wobble’ in their BG levels 🙂

I sometimes feel suddenly hungry and test to find that my level has gone up. My theory is that the hunger pang coincides with a liver dump.
