So far i've seen the DSN up here twice, she is very nice! I liked my previous DSN back home but my mum never did I think she thought she was over friendly and a bit intimidating in that way. Both DSN's seem to be overfriendly so far though!

Anyway, I am due to get a half unit pen soon. Apparently they are stopping the one they currently have which is made for kids and replacing it with an adult version so there was no point in me starting that one. I showed her all my readings from the beginning of the month and she said they all look absolutely fine! She can definately see why I need a half unit pen as 3 can be too less and 4 slightly too much.

I should also be getting 5mm needles at some point, novo do these new novotwist needles that are 5mm. She made me an appointment to see the GP next week so I can get them and also show him how i'm doing.

I had my first real hypo the other day, real because its lower than i would get considering my hypos when I wasn't on insulin. 3.0!!! It took a lot to get it up (2 glucose tabs, a cereal bar, 1/2 bottle powerade) and it still was low following a walk home. I survived though, thats what counts 🙂 I think I done well in treating it too despite thinking i'd overtreated.

I seem to be taking 9 units per a day at the moment which seems to level me out well. I just need to work on matching my spike with the insulin peak.

Good news Liz, it sounds like you are being well-supported and sounding very positive about managing your diabetes. Don't really understand why they didn't give you one of the kid's pens now and give you a new one when they come out though?

That's what I was thinking Notherner😉

Still at least they are getting the half units soon.

Well done with dealing with the hypo! Don't worry about having to have a lot to bring you back up - K would almost always have 3 glucose tabs and a 15g carb like cereal bar for those levels, probably take a bit more glucose if it was during the night or she was going to be walking somewhere.

You are sounding really positive -it's good to have a supportive DSN it makes a real difference
🙂

yep, I was told for a hypo between 3 and 4, to treat with 3 glucose tablets and then carbs once levels had gone up. So only having 2 just may not have been enough, hence why you had the drink as well. Also, as it was on the border at 3, you may have needed double dose of fast acting.

I think you did really well, and should be proud of yourself. It's all trial and error 🙂

great to hear you have a supportive diabetes team too!
