Last year I took part in a research programme to help ADULTS with very poor hypo awareness and they now have funding to trial this programme in London, Sheffield and Bournemouth and are seeking participants with type 1 diabetes who need help in restoring hypo awareness. It involves attending the centre for a minimum of 4 days over a 6 week period. I found it challenging - lots of rigorous self examination and dedication to measuring blood glucose - but very helpful. It's based on behaviour and attitude modification, not drugs. If you have repeated hypos that you're not aware of and you'd like to take part, do ask me some questions and I'll let you know who to contact. There is NO payment for Participants! The research is funded by JDRF and led by clinicians at Kings College Hospital, London.

Hi Lis!

Welcome to the forum, and great to see you here 🙂

I feel a bit silly that I haven't posted this myself actually, as this project is something that I am slightly involved in and I did know that they were currently recruiting.

Please do think about taking part T1 people, if you struggle with hypoglycaemia awareness, and particularly if you have experienced severe hypoglycaemia recently (where a friend/family member/paramedic had to help you out because you had gone too low to recover by yourself)

I wish I could participate in something like this, but sadly wouldn't be well enough to travel to any of the locations, or to attend clinics for full days. If there is any chance of either of you passing feedback on to the researchers, please could you ask them to consider setting up an online or email programme in the future for those of us whose health makes physical attendance at clinics impossible?

Oh - and welcome, Lis! 🙂

I can certainly pass that on Juliet.

ClockworkDodo - On another website I frequent there is a successful Hypo Awareness Programme. It's an online, self-service programme. I won't post a link as I fear it would be deleted, but if you'd like the url, please drop me a PM. Alternatively Dr Google might well direct you there from one of the many results to it it returns.
