POLICE have been praised for their efforts in tackling violence faced by NHS staff in County Durham.
A pioneering report by Darlington police looked into violence and aggression shown towards the town’s frontline staff during their daily work from patients, their families and other members of the public.
It found staff at Darlington Memorial Hospital were concerned about the lack of respect shown towards them following an increase in abuse from family and friends of patients.
It also found that while staff do not tolerate physical assaults, they were reluctant to report low level abuse as they are often too busy, and received no feedback or advice after making the report.
