Sorry, must rant!

When I saw my GP for my new patient appointment, I mentioned the small slightly numb patch on my right big toe and the cyst under my heel - plus the fact that I had just had to cancel an appointment that came through the post from the service in Stevenage. He told me to ask the receptionist to refer me to the local podiatry service. So far, so good.

I have just received a letter from said non-service, telling me that they are not taking on annual assessments for diabetic patients who are not already on their caseload, but that they will accept referrals re: patients with concerns about their foot health.

I now have to work out who can sort this out - the GP practice, who didn't give details of my problems in the referral, or the community podiatry people who didn't book me an appointment. Grrr! I'm now very glad that my temp job it with the PCT!

Rant over.

Sounds like maybe the receptionist sent a standard check-up letter, I should go back and say the GP wanted a referral for foot problems (or see your GP again).

I daresay they will want confirmation from the GP that you do have a problem rather than just you saying Oh but I do ..... but that's fair enough really.

Wrong referral letter from GP surgery and so surgery need to sort it, and you will do this urgently now, won't you doctor?

All sorted, had my assessment this morning. All OK apart from a few minor things like corns to sort out. Numbness in big toe might be caused by the developing arthitis in the joint rather than neuropathy, but no way to tell for sure. They also have a surgeon who will take a look at the cyst on my heel. Got the usual telling off about being slapdash with moisturising!

health care proffessionals are notorious for lack of communication skills. Hope it all works out for you and things are sorted properly.

Glad you got it sorted. Would be interested to know how things go with the surgeon re the cyst as my brother has a cyst on his foot at the moment (he's also Type 1) and keeps being prescribed painkillers for it but no treatment. He's a landscaper so on his feet all day.
