Hi All!
Steph kindly reminded me that I had not been on for a while so feeling guilty here I am again. 😱
A quick question if I may?
I have my fisrst appointment with a Podiarist next Monday.
Would appreciate any advice as to what to expect, what to ask and any other useful info before I go.
Thanks in advance.
Chris

They will take your medical history, look at your feet and your shoes and advise accordingly. If things like toenails need trimming they may well do that too. Make a list of anything you want to know as it will help them to help you.

On your first visit to a Podiatrist's office you will probably be asked to fill out a questionnaire on your health history as well as the nature of your foot problems. Then your foot wil be looked over and things like toenails may need clipping etc etc, they might ask you questions about your footwear , like Caroine said write down a list,

Good luck

Mine uses a small adjustable vibrating machine and you have to tell her as soon as you feel the sensation on various parts of your feet. There is a scale level for normality, and they can tell if your nerves are deteriorating. Fortunately I'm OK for now. Good luck

Mine have always been really quick. They check my circulation with one of those things they listen to babys heartbeats with (I want to say ultra sound but I'm not convinced heh) and then they check my nerve endings with what looks like the mother of tuning forks and a lil plastic prodding thingy. Heh.

So far never had any problems with my feet so is all good. My issue is that I'm about 2 years over due for my eyes doing and no one knows when I'm going to get an appointment. I keep getting letters reminding me that they haven't forgotten but still no actual appointment date yet.

I have never seen a podiatrist. Is this something you get on the NHS? My feet are meant to be checked annually at my clinic review but it does not always happen.

Never seen one either - just get checked out by Nursey

Certainly with my specialist he arranges every 12 months, visits to him every 6 months, eye retinopathy every 12 months - maybe Fife is not that bad!!

I have been told that I will not be seeing a podiatrist as there is no funding for it but the nurse will check my feet :(

wow that is unbelievable ,in fact no it aint after some of the things i have read on here the last year i can well believe it.Poor you

I may be wrong, but i was under the impression that all diabetics have an annual foot check and retinal screening as part of ongoing care. I didnt realise it was down to funding, that is disgusting.

I got a letter just last week inviting me to my annual foot check and retinal screening.

Totally agree i am just referring to my x-pert handbook and it says should be checked yearly.

Thanks for the help ladies and Gents.!
I'll let you know how it goes.
Chris

Reporting back after the appointment:
All went fine.
Nice lady poked and prodded my feet for a bit.
Asked some questions.
Gave some foot care advice
Gave me a score of 2/32 (The lower the better apparently so well pleased with that one).
All in all wasn't worth worrying about.
Thanks to all for the advice
Chris

I had my first foot check with the Podiatrist today too. All is well, had the tuning fork test (my feet are humming in the key of 'C minor') and the ultrasound pulse thingy. I'm being referred to the foot clinic for further attention to my feet because of severe hard skin and cracks on my heels (I struggle to look after my feet because of some mobility issues) and horrible fungussy toenails ( I don't usually reveal my feet in public to protect the innocent and vulnerable.) I think I got lucky with my NHS area and my surgery - they seem to be really looking after me well.
