MEET Duke, the springer spaniel with such a good sense of smell he can sniff out changes in the blood sugar levels of diabetes sufferers, potentially saving their lives.

A fundraising campaign has begun to bring Duke to Plymouth to help warn Arthur Donnellan, 44, of his potentially fatal ‘hypos’ and ‘hypers’ – when his blood sugar becomes too low or high.

Having already suffered two heart attacks because of type 1 diabetes, it is vital for Arthur, a support worker, to recognise these changes as his next heart attack could kill him.

I find it worrying he needs a dog to detect his hypos yet is still able to drive.
A simple solution would be a cgm and just setting the alarms to a higher setting for hypo warning and lower for a high warning problem solved.
