Hi All
I’ve been type 2 diabetic 20+ years & insulin dependent the past 2. Looking forward to engaging with this forum to learn from others & share experience.

Welcome!

Hi and welcome.

Pleased that you have found us as most of us find it really helps ease the strain of diabetes management to be able to share experiences and compare notes with others facing the same challenges.

It looks like you were just in your early 30s at diagnosis. Did they consider you might be a slow onset Type 1 or just assumed Type 2?

How are you managing with insulin? Which one(s) do you have and do you have Freestyle Libre or other CGM. I know it can be challenging getting it prescribed as a Type 2 and partly depend on your insulin regime.

Is there anything particular that brings you to the forum at this time? Feel free to ask any questions you have.

Welcome @SQH 🙂 I’m another one who wonders what insulin(s) you’re taking. Is it helping your blood sugars?

Thanks Barbara.
The progress of my diabetes was caused by long term steroid medication I needed for a lung disease contracted from Long-Covid. I’ve been living a balancing act for past 2-3 years between the correct dose of steroid to treat my lung disease & the right level of diabetic meds to manage my sugar levels. It’s been super difficult and continues to be so.
I have nothing but praise for Northumbria Healthcare Trust in all parts of my care. I was self funding freestyle libre & just a few weeks ago, was told I qualify for NHS funded monitors. They are game changing & make life so much easier.

I’m currently on Toujeo 300 (132 units daily) & Humalog 200 (60 units per meal). This is monitored regularly with support from Specialist Diabetic Nurse team.

Good to have another northerner here on the forum. Welcome from neighbouring Co.Durham.
Sorry to hear that it is a complication of Covid which has resulted in you needing insulin to manage things but hopefully once you get to grips with balancing your doses, you will feel better. Libre certainly helps so I am really pleased that you now have it on prescription.

it’s only recently that for the first time ever my latest HbA1c has been in range! Has continually been in 90+ till current is 56mmol.

How are your injection sites managing coping with those doses? Have you been offered Metformin to help with the insulin resistance?

Many congratulations on your massive HbA1c reduction. You must be thrilled with that!

It must be very difficult balancing your steroids and your blood sugar. It’s great that you’re getting good support. You’re on concentrated insulins, which is great too, and shows your team are on the ball.

Welcome to the forum @SQH

Sorry to hear that you are having to balance the competing demands of your lung condition’s steroids, and the BG upheaval they cause making it much more difficult to manage your glucose levels :(

Great to hear you have access to monitors (I am assuming sensors? like Libre2?). Sounds like it’s making a big difference for you.
