Pinky, without sounding rude (forgive me if it comes across that way), you're flogging the proverbial 'dead horse'. This is an inherant problem within the NHS, and one that has had plenty of coverage across the board.
Unfortunately you're not the first to suffer from this, and you won't be the last, but please do take notice of the advice given to you in your last post on this subject.
If you use the search tab on the user bar above to search for this subject, it may give you some of the answers you need.🙂

I agree with you wholeheartedly, I've been there myself. As I said before, you just have to keep plugging away at it, and it can get really frustrating. It may be worthwile speaking to your local PCT and taking their advice, but they may just confirm that NICE guidelines don't advocate testing strips for type 2s in general. These are all the obstacles that will be thrown in your way, but you sound very determined in your cause.
I do hope others on here can back you and offer words of support, because we're all in the same boat fighting our corner.

I think the main worry (apart from the obvious one of cost) for GPs is that test strips will be 'wasted' through inefficient testing merely to act as a 'comfort blanket' for the newly diagnosed or worse as a depression inducing practice when things aren't going right.

If you can persuade your GP that neither of those conditions apply then you may make some headway.

Mind you, I did self-fund my strips for a couple of pots, but as it turned out, with my GP, he was quite willing to prescribe them. But perhaps that was when I had demonstrated my progress and an analytical approach to testing (i.e. it was always to a purpose).

As before, feel free to use this post if it helps your cause (and my previous one on your earlier thread).

Andy 🙂

p.s. By the way, when I got the odd bad reading (i.e. around 10+) I always found that a quick walk (30mins or so) brought me down nicely. So the question about what one can do if one gets a higher than normal reading can be answered quite easily! However, I understand that if the reading is VERY high then exercising is not necessarily the best approach. Others can explain the reason for that better than I.

When I have read previous posts of type 2s being refused testing strips I have wondered if GPs would be more willing to prescribe them if you first bought a pack yourself and did a proper diary, regular testing, food, carbs etc, and then present the whole lot to your GP as evidence, whether they would then be be swayed or not. I know GPs vary considerably, and as my son is type 1 it has never been questioned. We were only warned off ordering too many ketone strips as they are significantly more expensive.

I wholeheartedly believe that any type 2s should be offered them at diagnosis at the very least, and if they are serious about monitoring and trying to improve their health they should continue to be offered on a regular basis. It seems mad to me that they are refused this potentially life changing facility to so many people, yet they still seem to dish out antibiotics etc on demand. Ok, if someone brings a meter in with only a couple of tests in the past 6 months there is no point giving them more, but anyone using them regularly should not be denied them. That's my opinion anyway.
