Okay, I tried cinnamom, fenugreek, metamorfin and gynema.Nothing worked.I have problems with metamorfin,I feel weak with it and it caused me pain.Liver problems.I m vegetarian and metamorfin could cause my defiency in nutrients. Also problems with digestion.Im using probiotics.Could anybody help me?

If you are T2 then a low-carb diet is a high priority. You will find that none of the 'natural' remedies work so don't waste your time with them. Just keep the carbs way down and have enough proteins and fats. This can be more difficult as a Vegetarian but do what you can. Metformin SR (Slow Release) is the version which causes fewest bowel problems. I've never heard of it causing weakness or liver pain

Yes, Im T2, I dont eat much carbs, but I cant live without bread.I eat quinoa a lot, I quited of sweets,I track my blood sugar, my doctor even suggested to put me down off meds because weight seems to be problem.

Doesn't make much sense the first part of your statement as these are both high carb foods, have you tried sloe release metformin as I can only assume that's the medication you are referring to x

Hi @Fde and welcome to the forum. I am thinking that you are from outside the UK and that perhaps English is not your first language. If so, then no problem, but we will have to work a little harder to make sure we understand each other.

Can you tell us a little more about your diabetes? Do you know what your blood glucose levels are? You say that your weight seems to be a problem. Is that because you need to lose weight or to gain weight?

Welcome to the forum @Fde

I suspect that you may have experienced a common side effect of Metformin. It often leads to stomach issues and possibly dihorrea, which would indeed cause problems for the gut. You could ask about a slow release version of Metformin and ask about timing of the dose, making sure that it is taken with food. Some have found that that helps.

Reducing your carb intake may mean that you can match the glucose levels in your blood to the amount of insulin your body is able to make. It is important to find out how many carbs you are eating at present so that you can then reduce it.

Keep in touch and keep questions coming.

okay, I eat these, but in lower amount and not everyday.Sorry for misunderstanding. Its impossible to eat lowest amount of these as my organism crave carbs.Quinoa isnt bad as wheat as ratio of carb and protein is great. And it isnt real grain, more like seed.

Yes, I live outside of UK.I was diagnosed with diabetes year ago and its type two,and my mother has it too. Its inhereted diabetes. My blood glucose is usually 8-9 mmol, but it can spike, usually after large meal.I have problems with weight, cant lose it.

People without diabetes have spikes after a large meal or after eating. Are you trying to lose weight or not?

The problem is, it was slow release that caused problems.I also tried regular metformin. Both had side effects.First day of metformin was good, it lowered my sugar, but as few days passed my body couldnt take it.Tiredness, urge to vomit.I quited. Then I was at another doctor,he said I could live without it and gave me slow release metformin.Maybe I have IBS or irratable bowel syndrom as my digestion is bad.

Hi again. It does seem from what you say that you are finding it difficult to keep your carbs down? The problem with Carbs is that they are turned to glucose in the stomach and cause a 'sugar high' and this makes the body crave more. We have all experienced this. If you can break that circle by having enough fat and protein you should start to lose weight. Fat and protein slow the body's absorption of carbs and keep you feeling full for longer. When you do have carbs try to have the fibrous ones such as lentils etc. Whole wheat bread is better than white flour bread but it is still a carb. Cheese and berries can be good for snacking if you feel hungry.

I for many years could get away with eating small amounts of rice weekly, but I can no longer tolerate even a spoonful. If I were to something which normal eaten with rice I have without the rice.

Welcome to the forum @Fde

Sorry to hear that you are struggling with the balance between your meds and your food.

Metformin would generally build up in the system over a number of weeks, so I am not sure any benefits you saw on day 1 would be the result of your first tablets.

It may be that your unpleasant symptoms will fade after a while of you can keep taking metformin for a few weeks, and build up the dose gradually. It can also help to take it with a substantial meal I think.

Good to know that you have a BG meter. Try checking immediately before a meal and then 2hrs afterwards to see how much your BG is rising. Then adjust the meal to reduce the spikes you see.

It sounds like portion control is going to be very important for you if you can’t give up some sources of carb entirely - just reduce the amount until the BG spike is better and fill up with other things.
