I have a slight problem with that statement in that one of the often quoted studies in looking at plant based diets for treating T2 is Dr Neal Barnards work.

Whilst the dietary advice led to an improvement in HbA1c this was evidently not sustainable over time and indeed was starting to worsen after 6 months. Also the levels of HbA1c achieved were nowhere near what would be considered as remission.
I like this study as it was designed by and carried out by a vegan/plant based doctor.
I guess maybe we have different definitions of "highly effective".

There are plenty of studies, BB. Why not take a look at NutritionFacts, which states:

“People who eat a plant-based diet have been found to have just a small fraction of the diabetes rate seen in those who regularly eat meat. As diets become increasingly plant-based, there appears to be a stepwise drop in diabetes rates. Based on a study of 89,000 Californians, flexitarians (who eat meat maybe once weekly rather than daily) appear to cut their rate of diabetes by 28 percent, and those who cut out all meat except fish appear to cut their rates in half. What about those eliminating all meat, including fish? They appear to eliminate 61 percent of their risk. And those who go a step farther and drop eggs and dairy, too? They may drop their diabetes rates 78 percent compared with people who eat meat on a daily basis.”

Eating a low fat vegan diet hugely improves insulin sensitivity. It can also have cardiac benefits.

Nutrition "facts" is a propaganda mouthpiece for Dr Greger who unfortunately either uses very misleading statistics or tells downright lies about the benefits of plant based eating.

I prefer some science

He’s linking to a study that was widely reported on a number of websites. That’s what he does - link to studies. His book, How Not To Die, also links to large numbers of studies, with chapters on How Not To Die from Heart Disease, Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, etc, etc.

I used to think that these were simply vegans pushing a vegan diet, but further investigation showed that many of them were originally meat-eaters who changed to a plant-based diet after seeing evidence of its benefits.

I’m not a vegan, but I certainly take on board ideas from whole food plant-based diets. I can also confirm that eating a very low fat vegan diet hugely increased my insulin sensitivity, even though it was very good to start with.
 
I was listening to BBC radio 4 yesterday evening, the 8th starting at 20:00 - on how studies and suchlike supposedly scientific work has been tainted by grants and money and pure bad intent in general. I intend to listen to it again as I was driving at the time and so could not make notes.
