A vaccine to protect against chickenpox should become a routine childhood jab in the UK, government advisers have said.

At present, the jab, known as the varicella vaccination after the varicella zoster virus that causes the disease, is only available on the NHS to children and adults who are in regular or close contact with people who could become very ill from a chickenpox infection or have a weakened immune system.

n.b At least with this, they are at least acknowledging that there are symptoms with a case of chicken pox, unlke covid where those with no symptoms were classed as having a "case" of covid.

“If we don’t get it right, there is a danger it would do more harm than good,” said Helen Bedford, professor of child health at University College London.
