A PIONEERING doctor is leading calls to end a 'postcode lottery' which denies thousands of people in North Staffordshire treatment for painful varicose veins.
Consultant Dr David West wants managers to rethink restrictive funding rules after a health watchdog recommended his revolutionary laser procedure should be free on the NHS.
Under the current system patients receive different levels of treatment, depending on the policies of NHS funding bodies in the area where they live.
Dr West, of Ashley ? a former radiologist at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire ? said: "Whether you get NHS treatment is now a postcode lottery and in most areas it is highly restricted."
