Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello people I am looking for a bit of advice.

I am a long term sufferer of diabetes type 2 and I think I have managed to control it ok so far. However in the last I suppose one month to six weeks I have been getting a near permanent feeling of pins and needles sometimes with itching on my left foot.

I take very good care of my feet and see a chiropodist once two months (privately). On my last visit to see him, I explained these uncomfortable sensations, he told me this is a diabetic condition and said I must see my diabetic Nurse or Doctor. Sadly where I live (South Wales) getting an appointment is problematic and you often have to wait weeks to see a doctor. Secondly it would appear I have gone from one extreme to another with a change in the Diabetic nurse. The first one retired and she was very good always prompting and always making sure that you do things correctly, monitored my medication effectively and made sure that I was in good condition. The second nurse is the complete opposite, in the nearly two and half years she has been there I have seen her just the once and then she wanted to know why. I had to make this appointment myself as well. I have not had a proper blood test in the last year, my sugar levels are all over the place ranging from 3.2 to 18.9. In the last year it is like I have lost control with everything, including putting weight back on.

Do you think I should change my practitioner? Is the issue I have the pins and needles serious or will it pass ? Should I be more forceful with my nurse?

For what it is worth I am 56 years old, 5:10, and weigh 12s 9.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this.

I certainly think your surgery is failing you and I would be asking them why you are not being seen regularly. It is worth getting an appointment about your foot and asking a few questions about their duty of care to you. If all else fails ask around about other practices and change. You can't go on like this. Hope it gets resolved.

As it is just on one side, you really ought to see a doctor. It may not be diabetes, but if your HbA1c is high that makes it more likely.
