A small clinical trial led by Stanford Medicine found that the metabolic effects of a ketogenic diet may help stabilize the brain.

The participants were instructed to follow a ketogenic diet, with approximately 10% of the calories from carbohydrates, 30% from protein and 60% from fat. They were not told to count calories.

“The focus of eating is on whole non-processed foods including protein and non-starchy vegetables, and not restricting fats,”

I'm sure that back in the 19th century they used a ketogenic diet for epilepsy.

Just to point out to any casual readers that zero carb diets involve eating only meat and oil.

All vegetables contain trace elements of carbohydrates, as do eggs and cheese.

Trace elements, vitamins and minerals would presumably have to be taken in supplements?
 
I have certainly found that a low carb diet helps my mental health which is one of the reasons I stick with it despite being Type 1, but I haven't attempted to go Keto.

Slightly off topic, but fasting has also shown to have a whole host of benefits, encouraging self repair and healing.

Good to know as I'm big fan of fasting, fast from breakfast at 7 to 9 then have a snack, then fast to 12 for lunch, then fast till 3 for snack again then another fast to 6 fir tea.

It gets exhausting all this fasting but manage to get by, not recommended for the faint hearted mind.
