Thank you to everyone that responded to this questionnaire I first posted a few months ago. I have received more responses from diabetessupport.co.uk than from any other website, 52 responses so far. I was also made very welcome at the forum meet up in June, conveniently held in Glasgow. The support from this website has been great.
I have been going over the responses and they will definitely prove to be an indispensable source for me when writing up my thesis. Longer and detailed responses have revealed many of the issues of day-to-day living and are comparable to face-to-face interview transcripts, which are generally regarded as a more rigorous way to get detailed responses. Short answers are also invaluable; they provide an insight into opinions that are shared by many people who respond. For instance many people wrote briefly about the drudgery of counting carbs, weighing food and logging results at meal times which gave a wider sense of this being something that many people with diabetes experience on a day-to-day basis.
Some people have said that the questionnaire is more geared towards people with type 1 diabetes rather than type 2. This is somewhat inevitable since I am type 1 myself and therefore my own experiences contributed towards the formation of the questions. I have decided still not to make a clear distinction between type 1 and type 2 in the questionnaire since I still received great responses to many of the questions from people with both types but I am aware of the particularities of the two different types and I do appreciate the responses from people that pointed this out.
Many people also expressed a frustration at the care provided by health care professionals and I have included a question about this.
Some people have asked about what it is like living with potential medical complications of diabetes and so I have included a question about this.
Some people also pointed that the questionnaire is very long! It has not really been shortened, sorry, but please feel free to skip questions that you do not want to answer. The questions are really just to stimulate thinking about different aspects of living with diabetes
I have added a quick question at the start where people can choose a pseudonym or name, number or phrase by which their response can be identified. This identifier does not have to be your real name or forum name it just allows me to identify your response should you wish to add to it in a separate response or want a copy of what you wrote. I apologise for not doing this for the first questionnaire. Of course this question, like all the questions, is optional.
Other than these changes the questionnaire remains very similar. I would appreciate anyone who missed it the first time round filling out the second version, link below. There is more information about the research on the first page of the link. Also anyone who filled it out the first time but would like to do so again, with further thoughts please do so. Alternatively you can email or PM me if you have further thoughts but do not want to fill out the questionnaire again.

If anyone has any particular questions please email or PM me and I will be happy to discuss them with you. My email is available on the first page of the questionnaire.
I am now also starting to do face-to-face interviews with people with diabetes and was wondering if anyone would be interested in arranging to meet me. I live in Glasgow so any interviewees would have to be local but I can travel to Edinburgh and other nearby places. Unfortunately I don?t have the budget to make regular trips to England, Wales of further afield but I may try to do this if someone is eager to talk to me. If anyone is interested in doing an interview, which is really just an informal chat about living with diabetes, please send me an email and I can send you more details before you make a final decision.
Many thanks
Mark
