I asked in my nominated pharamacy (Cohens Chemist) about mounjaro as they were advertising it among other treatments for weight loss when I went to pick up my metformin. At the time they scheduled me in for an appointment the following week for an elligibility assessment I'm guessing, however on a follow up call about how I was getting on with my metformin prescription (they've checked in bi-weekly, very thoughtful) they told me they noticed I was scheduled for an appointment and with having T2 diabetes they wouldn't be able to proceed / privately prescribe and I'd need to talk to my GP.
I was diagnosed around mid-June and I'm due to repeat my A1c around September after which I'm assuming I'll have another review with the GP about my results and I'm guessing utilizing a GLP-1 medication would skew the results of that 3 month assessment? Do I need to ask my GP to be referred for a private prescription of a GLP-1 medication with T2? I've already looked at the NHS criteria for mounjaro and I don't think I'd qualify (in the current criteria anyway) and so I'm happy to pay for the treatment but I'm not sure /what/ I need from my GP that'd allow the pharmacy to issue a private prescription.
