With winter looming, Cheshire health leaders have urged people to Think Pharmacy if they fall ill with a wide range of common ailments.

The plea was made this week by NHS Eastern Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) which stressed that pharmacists are highly-qualified healthcare professionals who can offer expert advice on a wide range of illnesses, giving the area's 23 GP practices more time to see patients.

As well as making up prescriptions written by GPs, pharmacists can give advice on the over-the-counter medicines they sell, review medicines in private, dispose safely of old or unwanted medication and signpost people to services to help them lose weight, stop smoking or cut down on alcohol.

Trouble with ours is they are too busy - daughter said she had to queue 2 days running for 25 minutes to try and collect her prescription ! The first day they told her (although she'd left it 2 or 3 days already, it's a regular repeat) they hadn't ordered it from the supplier yet - the second day they said they'd received it but they couldn't see where they'd put it.

Really? in two boxes each the size of an apple-transporting carton, and they weigh a ton?

Then they found it - but nobody had checked it was what she'd been prescribed ...... somebody eventually did that and signed it off.

You know if it's Morphine or even insulin, they do have to take care .... but Fortisips ? ? ?

I presume they'll have to have an appointment system soon, for anyone who wants to speak to a pharmacist. I mean it's not like someone will drop everything to see anyone else, cos we aren't drug addicts coming for our daily dose, are we?

We are lucky to have a pharmacy at the end of the road. They are happy to give advice within their expertise, and they are very good on the timing of medication, something the surgery don't have time for.
We order repeats online now with emis patient access. It is a mixed blessing because it is one chance less to talk to the pharmacist.

Same at my local pharmacy, the pharmacist is too busy most of the time unless you happen to luck in on a rare quiet time. To her credit, she did take the time to learn everyone's name soon after starting there 🙂
