CYCLING 100 miles isn?t most people?s idea of fun, but as one Penarth woman gears herself up for her hat-trick she insists that if she can do it then anyone can.

Clare Hughes? life was rocked back in November 2009 when her son Calum was diagnosed with type one diabetes.

As a nurse and loving parent Mrs Hughes originally began to blame herself until she was reassured by professionals that Calum?s condition was unpreventable.

Three years on and 15-year-old Calum, who attends Stanwell School, now wears an insulin pump 24 hours a day while Mrs Hughes and husband Paul have been helped and supported by JDRF, a charity that specifically works to help improve the lives of families effected by type one diabetes.
In order to raise money and awareness for JDRF Mrs Hughes has already completed the 103-mile charity bike ride from Cardiff to Tenby twice, but the 44-year-old isn?t about to leave it there.
