Roasted peanuts are more likely to trigger an allergic reaction than raw peanuts, according to an Oxford University study, involving mice.

Scientists say chemical changes caused by dry roasting processes may prime the body's immune system - sparking future allergic reactions.

But much more work is needed before humans should consider swapping roasted nuts for raw ones, they say.

The research appears in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

Interestingly, last year I reported a problem to my dentist about a recurrent mouth ulcer I was getting. I'd read on t'interweb that is might be caused by peanuts - the low-carb snack of my choice. He couldn't confirm the two were related, but then when I was ill in January and couldn't eat fr 3 weeks, and therefore didn't eat any peanuts, the ulcer went and didn't return. I haven't eaten peanuts since and no return of the ulcer so it does suggest it may have been related...🙄
