NHS bosses are warning that dozens of extra beds are needed at North Staffordshire's main hospital because of an increase in in patients from outside of the area.

The experts say they are needed to avert a fresh A&E crisis this winter.

Any further beds would be on top of the 130 the University Hospital of North Staffordshire (UHNS) had to re-open last year to cope with a record rise in people needing emergency care.

Figures show that during April, May and June, 60 more beds were occupied by patients from other trusts than the same period last year.
