THE number of nurses and hospital beds in Scotland have been slashed, a Daily Record investigation reveals today.
And a Record survey revealed there was just a handful of beds available nationwide on the day we checked.
The shocking figures emerged in the wake of last week?s harrowing Record story about grandad John McGarrity, 84.
He spent eight hours in agony with chest pains in a corridor at Glasgow?s Western Infirmary because they had no bed for him.
That forced Health Minister Alex Neil to stump up an extra ?1million for casualty consultants.
But yesterday, Government statistics showed that nursing and midwifery staff numbers have decreased by 2165 since September 2009 ? a 3.7 per cent cut.
