Apologies for not being around much lately, I suppose I could say I haven't needed any questions answered that can be answered!! I am so bad at post titles...
Well, what do I have to say? I tried gliclazide a month or so ago and it had no real result... it was dependent on what I ate and never went down enough. My biggest problem is DP and it never combated that. So I took myself off them after about 4/5 weeks and I figured insulin is my best bet. Clearly it is my first phase insulin that's most busted and a nurse also told me it didn't help post-meal spikes!!! I also don't know if their absorbing ability is affected by me being coeliac and they also contain lactose which is something that doesn't agree with me and I avoid. Another problem with these is that during holidays i'm sitting around and not doing as much as I would at uni, which probably means they would work then but what is the point if i'm having to up/down doses all the time? Plus insulin is much more flexible really.
Last week me and Vicki, Persil, met up for the first time. It was great to finally meet after chatting for so long. I have this forum to thank for that!!
Over the past few days my blood sugars have been very up and down! And I have not enjoyed it either. Generally I don't get that many hypos if my levels are running smoothly but all of a sudden I was. So I think my pancreas is deciding to kick in again haha. My levels are coming down a bit more rapidly than usual. Yesterday I managed to bring a 14.6 down to a 9.5 in 3hrs on 2u of insulin... and that was all I had all day!
Decided to try low carb-ing it for a while. Mainly because I have a wedding to go to in a weeks time and would like to loose a bit of weight, or even just not get so bloated which seems to be an easy problem. But of course it's easier said than done. I do honestly feel a ton better and healthier when I low carb though, and of course my insulin requirements are minimal (just morning novo) which is a plus I suppose.
My next endo appointment with new guy is next month, i'm quite looking forward to it but i'm also nervous. The tablets didn't work as we expected, them in good use is indicative of MODY, but perhaps I didn't try it out for long enough or that my progression is too far along? I'm hoping he'll give me some answers and understanding since I still believe i'm not a t1 :/
I'm back to uni at the end of this month too, last year! Scary stuff. I am hoping to apply for Disabled Student Allowance and my hopes are to make the most of this year. I've often mentioned that I don't seem to have the free time that everyone else does. There are lots of things I want to do and I have them all planned so i'm hoping i'll manage it 🙂
