Hi everyone,

I am new to forums in general, so I hope that someone will be able to offer some advice.

I love my partner very much, he is very kind hearted and likes to cook for me. I have explained time and time again that there are some ingredients best avoided- or if he has to put sugar into something savoury and unexpected, then I need to know how much- and massive desserts are great occasionally, but not everyday.

He really is a lovely chap, but he just doesn't take my diabetes seriously.

I have explained and explained everything I can to him, but he isn't getting the idea, or just isnt taking it seriously.

How can I drum it into his head that actually my control is incredibly important and I need his help with it if we are to be together.

Suggestions appreciated!

Hi and welcome.
I'm temped to say make it a leaving matter. Tell him stright out, "No sugar or no me."
I'm definately single though.

If you've explained it and he's still doing it, you need to refuse to eat what he's spent time lovingly cooking! Or show him, hours after the meal, the result on your BG meter of his secret ingredients. Can you spend time in the kitchen cooking together? If you collaborate more on creating dishes, you'll know the exact ingredients and he will hopefully learn more type1-friendly meals.
