Hello,

First time posting but we’ve just had a situation we can’t make sense of.

My partner and I had a pre pregnancy meeting back in March and went through all the information regarding changes to time in range insulin, risks etc etc.
Part of the was information on an insulin pump (she has been on the list for one for a while already) which we were told she could get when she became pregnant.

Today she received a call advising she has been removed from the list for an insulin pump because she is pregnant?
We’ve called to get answers on this and are awaiting information back.

As far as we can tell it would help reduce the risks to the baby and all NHS guidance seems to suggest that her getting one is an option.
Has anyone else gone through this or can advise why she might have been removed from the list for one?

Thanks

Hi, welcome to the forum. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

This makes no sense to me and the only thing I can of is it's an error. Hopefully someone will get back to you soon to explain!

Hi and welcome @garywilson456789

Congratulations to you and your partner.

This is the information from Diabetes UK and the use of CGM/Hybrid loop pumps during pregnancy. Scroll down the page and there is a section on pumps/cgm in pregnancy

I hope you get the situation sorted asap, it doesn't make sense unless she is now prioritised and off the waiting list and ready to get a pump/cgm

Perhaps it’s simply a different list? That is, because she’s now pregnant, she’s been moved to a kind of pregnancy pump list and removed from the first list.

She needs to phone up and verify exactly what’s happening.

Yes my understanding as others have shared is she should be a priority for a pump.

I would check what’s going on and then contact Diabetes Uks hotline and see what they advise.

I was going to say the same thing as Inka, many diabetes centres will only work with the ypsopump as it is the only pump licensed in pregnancy. I’m wondering if they’ve moved her from one list to another?

Bit strange that they wouldn’t have put her on that particular list whilst in the conception clinic but who knows!

My understanding is also that during pregnancy someone with T1 should not only have access to a pump but also be offered closed loop. This can have a massive impact on TiR. Perhaps your partner has been moved from a general pump list to a closed loop list. Whatever has happened there is a need for clarification.
