@Copepod was a passionate campaigner for parkrun, and I was thinking that we could honour her passing by participating in a parkrun over the coming month. Will you join in, if you are able? If you can't run, there is no problem with walking the course - it's all about saying 'thank you' for the wonderful support she has provided for members here, and in her wider community 🙂

I can't do it myself this weekend due to prior commitments, but intend to do it next weekend 🙂

It's all free and friendly, details of how it works and how to find a parkrun near you are here:

http://www.parkrun.org.uk/

I'd love for people to take part and post about their experiences 🙂

That's a lovely idea Northerner. Unfortunately at the moment I can't even walk for ten minutes but I will be thinking of everyone who can do it.

Ditto Amanda - been a long time since I could contemplate even walking that far. However were I able, I think it's a lovely idea.

I once had a discussion with Copepod on a thread about park runs, where I said that driving 15miles into the nearest city just to find a park, when I could step out of my door onto a footpath, was impractical. So I'll dedicate my next country walk to her.

Just checked a couple of locations with significance to me...... Ah, Harrogate, used to love walking around the Stray.... Grange Paddocks in Bishop's Stortford (nice stroll along the river Stort) & Burgess park Near Peckham in London (if ever there was a reason to be able to run😱😱😱)

What a lovely idea Northie. I’ll see if I can do it the weekend after this.

I’ll definitely try a Parkrun when I move back to the UK in the spring - Copepod already had me convinced to give it a go. In the meantime, I’ll have a walk in her memory like Robin...

I've had a look and it seems there are no events near me, I have a hospital appointment next week though and as it is out in the sticks there is some beautiful scenery and a woodland etc, me and Bruce will take a walk through there in memory 🙂 x

A wonderful Idea, thanks @Northerner. Unfortunately I cant walk as far as I would like so I will follow @Amigo suggestion and dedicate a special Copepod moment . Mine will be this Sunday afternoon

Lovely idea. Next few Saturdays are busy, but we often walk at the local Park Run location on a Sunday...so Copepod will be very much in my thoughts next Sunday and I'll do a couple of extra circuits as I won't be running.

Copepod was a genuine inspiration. Luckily there is a Park Run near by so I will definitely take part this month to honour her and my thoughts will be with her family.

What a lovely idea. 🙂 I've marshalled at parkruns and they are really inclusive events. All ages, abilities, shapes and sizes take part - 9am Saturday. Remember to register online and print off your barcodes. It's all free. The Hanley one regularly has over a hundred people taking part from 17 minute runners to people pushing prams and walking round. I'll aim to do one although it probably won't be until later this year.

Just registered with Parkrun.
I can’t do the run this weekend but will do one soon and post a photo.
A really nice idea

I'm aiming to do the Hockley Woods on 27th, that's the next Saturday that I have free.

I remember copepod, but I'm behind on what's happened. I noticed the blue candle, though, so knew something had occurred.

Please inform me, and please can someone put the candle in my avatar. It's in my history from last year, by I'm limited technology, having only my phone in here.
S.

Lovely idea, Northerner, and I was inspired enough to check where my nearest venue is. It's along the shore of Rutland Water, so right out in country, not exactly a park! But realistically, I struggle to walk half a mile, so 5km would be far too much.
I'll join others in stopping for a special 'Copepod moment' tomorrow.

I've just posted this on the original thread about Copepod, and Robin drew my attention to this thread, so I'm copying my post over here:

I was thinking, it would be good if we could all do something in Copepod's memory.

I know marine conservation was very important to her and she was very opposed to disposable plastics, so here are a few suggestions along those lines - everyone should be able to do at least one of these:

* Take the Greenpeace pledge to help put a stop to plastic pollution, or sign one of the many petitions going round at the moment against plastic pollution, such as this Friends of the Earth one (there are plenty of others, if you want to google for a different one).

* If you're still using disposable insulin pens, ask your doctor to change you to a re-useable pen with cartridges, eg Novopen Echo

* Join or make a donation to the Marine Conservation Society

* Sign up to take part in a beach clean with the MCS or the National Trust (or google to find another voluntary organisation doing this).

Other people may have other ideas, please post and let us know if you do. @Northerner - do you know if her family is asking for money to go to a particular charity in her memory?

Just found this with a few more ideas about avoiding plastic: https://friendsoftheearth.uk/natural-resources/9-really-good-alternatives-plastic
