Parent to two T1 diabetics

🙂 hi there!!
Just wanted to join this as a way of supporting other parents/people with diabetes, I have two children under 9 with diabetes, one diagnosed when she was 19mths and one when he was 6, my ex husband has diabetes so i lived with it for 15 yrs and also i had gestational diabetes three times so if i can offer any support, advice or just a chat to anyone gimme a shout!!

Hi RoeShannon, welcome to the forum 🙂 You've certainly got a broad experience there, I am sure it will be very helpful to our members. 19 months is very young, it must have been especially difficult to deal with, even with your family knowledge, and then to have another child to manage is a lot to deal with. I hope they (and you!) are managing well.

Thanks! Yes she was very young diagnosed, massive shock to us. Shes five now and doing great, has grown up with it and counting carbs like an expert! My son was 7 when he was diagnosed, again a shock but we were more prepared to cope with it. Ill definitely check out the parenting thread thanks!

Hi there, a few months apart, dear oh that must have been awful. You just do what you can though and take each day as it comes!! Mine were 20 mths apart. I have 2 other children and youre constantly watching them expecting it to happen again, but i have to say we take it all in our stride, no point in panicking cos it does no good.

It was a bit of a shock. The positive aspect of the second one was that we saw it coming a mile away. He had already has blood and urine tests, both of which came back clear. We were still suspicious and were proved right eventually.
