Weight gain is concerning them any suggestions? Could a private nutritionist be helpful? One of them has had no NHS dietician input and would welcome a consultation privately

Welcome to the forum
Why do you think weight gain would occur, if the insulin to carb intake balance is correct then weight should remain stable.
If people have lost weight unintentionally prior to diagnosis then they may put some of that weight back which is what they may want to do.

Weight gain as in they’re putting on too much weight, or weight gain as in they’re worried that they can’t gain weight?

I am not sure whether you are concerned about gaining or losing weight @sky123

Loss of weight is common at diagnosis with T1. I lost 1.5 stone in a week, as my body used up any fat I had since without insulin it could not get any energy from what I was eating.

Once I was on insulin I found it was up to me to decide what I eat when. Balancing this with the right amount of insulin, which is sometimes a bit of an educated guess, means that there is only weight gain when I decide to eat more than I need to.

Let us know how things are going.
