My 4 year daughter got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in June last year and it has taken me this long to find a site 🙂 She has been on a pump since week 4 and it has literally been life changing. She copes so much better than her mum does, but I'm getting there! It's good to find a forum as unfortunately I have been unable to find any local support groups.
 
Hi Penguin, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your daughter's diagnosis, but great to hear that she is pumping already, and doing well with it 🙂

There are lots of lovely parents here, so feel free to ask any questions you may have! You might also be interested in hearing how some of the grown-ups get on as good foreknowledge for things that may be in the future for your little one 🙂

There is another group at Children with Diabetes that you may like to join - many of the members there are also members here 🙂

Also, if you don't already have a copy, I would recommend getting Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young People by Ragnar Hanas - a really excellent book covering all things Type1!

A lot of the more enlightened ones will recommend sites like ours, but I'm afraid there are still quite a few who are very suspicious of the 'interweb'! 😱 But we are here for support - we're not medically-trained, so can;t give medical advice, but we can share our knowledge and experiences which can help you ask the right questions or find out where to look for answers 🙂

Pleased to hear your daughter has a pump so early into her diagnoses.
Like your daughter I was diagnosed at 4, am just starting year 48 on insulin and also pumping. 🙂

I have a 4 yo daughter too who is pumping. How is your little one with it all, has she adapted to the pump ok ?
Glad you found the forum, it is very supportive, and lots of info.

We are lacking anything local too in terms of support groups - it can feel a bit lonely sometimes! x
