One parent is on a mission to get better care at school for her 11-year-old daughter.

Local mom Christine Cruz claims that her daughter, Jasmine Clevenger, was treated incorrectly for her Type 1 diabetes by a nurse at John Muir Middle School earlier this year. This prompted Cruz to complain to the school, district and agencies such as the Office for Civil Rights to do something about it.

?It?s just been a horrible experience,? she said. ?It?s been very stressful and overwhelming. The school has done so many things to violate my daughter?s civil rights.?

Jasmine was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes in August. Cruz said that soon after school started, she immediately began having problems with her nurse, Saravuth Key. Her daughter told her that the nurse didn?t inject her with insulin properly the first time she went to see him for her daily injections.
