Abu Dhabi: A 79-year-old Pakistani imam in Abu Dhabi has successfully had a cancerous mass in his pancreas removed through a laparoscopic procedure.
The procedure was carried out at Tawaam Hospital in Al Ain, a public facility under the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (Seha) that specialises in complex cancer and neurological care. A statement sent by the hospital on Sunday claims that this is the first time such a procedure has been performed in the UAE without the use of large surgical cuts.
The patient, A.M., is now recovering normally and has a five-year survival rate of about 25 per cent.
