Evening all, after some thoughts , past few weeks I've been suffering with an awful pain in what feels like my forearm muscle on my left arm but have noticed it's my left shoulder too, a few years back i really pulled my shoulder , and still feel pain now and again I'm wondering if anyone else has or is suffering similar? It has been waking me up on a night feels like pain in elbow too :( after any advice Tia 🙂 was googling as you do and wondered if it was tennis elbow, I work in retail which involves lifting heavy items at times.

I would suspect it is muscular from the lifting you are doing. Over the years I have had various pain in my arms and shoulders from awkward lifting, you may need some physio to alleviate it and pain meds to allow you to do the exercises. I found the night was worse as you could find a position to lie that didn't hurt. Probably best to see your GP to try to get a referral for physio.
I aught to take my own advice as I've currently got mystery pain in my shoulders at night, all fine no pain during the day but as soon as I lie down my shoulders ache. Sometimes I have to sleep half propped up with the pillow.

Hi Emma,

In the middle of a course of physio for tennis elbow myself. When the physio assessed me he looked for connection to the condition of muscles in my shoulders and even upper back as these can connect to forearm problems.

Access to a physio is ideal but if that might take a while to arrange, there's plenty of YouTube videos regarding options for stretching use of heat and cooling and stretching exercises albeit that takes the risk of experimenting without a professional diagnosis. I found some simple stretches eased discomfort but needed physio advice to target strengthening exercises to overcome rather than just manage the issue.

Sometimes the pain manifests itself not in the place where the problem is, so professional assessment is a good idea. If your employer has access to any occupational health services you might be able to get a quicker assessment from them. I was lucky that the sports therapy and physios were part of our department.

The sudden change from hot to cold weather has played havoc with my various aches so it may be contributing to yours too if you’re had similar weather but as has been said it sounds like you have a muscle pull somewhere which may then be affecting your whole arm. Here you can self refer to NHS physio but there is a long wait. If you can afford it then a sports physio, chiro or osteo may be a quicker option. Pain that’s waking you up shouldn’t be ignored. If over the counter pain killers don’t help then speak to your GP as well as chasing physio. Repetitive lifting of heavy stuff will cause this sort of injury so it’s worth speaking to work and seeing if you can be on light duties until it’s resolved.

Thank you all for the advice Really appreciated, I will see if u can book in to see my gp and see what they say. That's when I can get an appointment. Thank you all again 🙂 x

Hope it clears up swiftly for you @Emma19834, and that you can manage to get an appointment without too much hassle.
