Has anyone found that taking codeine raises there BG. I was up a bit with a very painful hip but found levels much more elevated since taking ibuprofen and codeine.

The closed loop pump now seems to need a bit of help but I shall see if it copes with bringing levels down overnight as I am not concerned about infection. If not I shall switch back to manual.

I suspect it’s more to do with the impact of pain than the medication SB. ‘Chronic, severe pain causes excess adrenal secretion of cortisol and catecholamine, which makes glucose serum levels unstable. Levels may vary from hyper to hypoglycemia’.

I‘m finding severe morning pain is elevating my blood glucose levels regardless of what I eat or the pain meds I take.

Thing is BG will remain elevated until the source of the pain has been entirely cured. Hence even when the pain has gone if anything internal is still inflamed or bruised - still need more insulin.

What's causing it @SB2015 ?

Some medications interfere with some sensors.
Dexcom used to be affected by paracetamol, so look in the blurb or ask the help line for info.
I know Dex fixed the problem with the G6

Also as others have said pain/stress can and does raise blood sugars.

Sorry to hear you are needing painkillers @SB2015

Hope your BG (and the pain!) settles down soon

It feels like I have have pulled the hip abductors and the TfL. I can cope with walking short distances but then I can no longer weight bear. It is also extremely painful doing any transitions. Time to be sensible and rest, ice it and elevate, but also trying to keep some mobility.
glad that my pump responded to the increased need for insulin and still woke with a 5.5. The pump showing that it had done corrections throughout the night. That is another tick for the pump.

The Medtronic sensors certainly do not allow paracetamol, so it is interesting that the dexcom has overcome this. Any idea how.
