A recent interview with one of the UK's top epidemiologists, Dr Sunetra Gupta showing that natural immunity can be gained without a vaccine.

"A significant fraction of the population, according to the study published last week, may have “innate resistance or cross-protection from exposure to seasonal coronaviruses”, making the proportion vulnerable to coronavirus infection much smaller than previously thought.

"the new studies are showing is that people are actually fighting off infection. So at an even more basic level, the pre-existing antibodies or T-cell responses against coronaviruses seem to protect against infection, not just the outcome of infection".

And this too today on BBC

Scientists have also recently discovered that some people can test negative for antibodies against Covid-19 and positive for T cells that can identify the virus. This has led to suspicions that some level of immunity against the disease might be twice as common as was previously thought.

Well one thing I know for a fact - aged 22 some of my T-cells mistook some good guys as enemies, and the stupid things killed those good guys - hence it's not very reassuring to think I might have to rely on em to recognise the bad blokes, even though they are all wearing black hats!

Given that 20% of common colds are due to coronaviruses, and if you live in one area for a few years, you do develop immunity to the local circulating cold viruses, including rhinovirus, that's hardly surprising. Mainly because coronaviruses attack cells in the same way, that immunity could help your body's attack force to fend off Covid 19.
