If it works out ok I'm planning on doing an overnight basal test tonight.
18:51pm bolused for tea
What time should I start the test and what time should my other test times be?

I know I can't have anything to eat or drink until breakfast tomorrow.
Is it ok to still have my breakfast around 9am - 9:30am ish?

You normally test every 2 hours during a basal test, and start it 4 hours after last insulin so about 11pm

23:07pm 4.8 test started 4 hours after tea which was 18:51pm
23:43pm 5.1
2:48am 4.4
5:03am 3.8 so had to stop basal test and treat hypo with 4x dextrose tablets and also had 1x rich tea biscuit.

My thoughts are that I'm having too much basal (tresiba) insulin.
What are anyone else's thoughts please?

Can an overnight basal test be regarded as an overnight basal test if you've only tested once during the night or do you have to test every 2 - 3 hours?

You have to test at least every 2 hours otherwise you aren’t getting the full picture of what’s happening.

Thanks!

It’s a pain but if you want to do it properly you have to put the effort in 🙂
That’s where Libre is good though, you can scan it once in the morning and see exactly what was going on all night without having to keep waking yourself up!

Yes you need to test every 2-3 hours overnight

I wonder if that actually works? I know (because of my Libre) that when I wake up too often overnight, that changes things. (I don't have a good answer for what would work, other than CGM of some sort. Having someone else take the blood tests ought to be better, but I'm not sure how much better since surely you're going to wake up anyway.)

I'm trying to work out a plan for doing a basal test on different days so not all in one go

Overnight - tomorrow night into Fri morning then have breakfast etc
Morning - Sat skip breakfast then have lunch etc
Afternoon - Sun have breakfast then skip lunch then have tea
Evening Mon is no good because we're out so this would have to be Tuesday

If I go hypo or high I will have to abandon the test and re test but when?
