There are some excellent people on here. It strikes me I'm talking incessantly about Diabetes and tapping folks for experience. I'm so lucky to have spoken to so many experienced people in such a short space of time.

It did make me think who the people were behind the insulin were! Who are you?

I'm a 40 year old Brummy Solicitor with 4 boys, aged 7, 14, 16 and 19. I've a golden cocker spaniel; Emily and a moth eaten old cat called Oliver.

I run a blog and have done for around 4 years at www.podcastpaul.com and have an internet podcast that talks about all sorts of stuff, and independent music - the latest episode is at http://libsyn.org/media/podcastpaul/podcast179.mp3

I'll be recording a podcast in or around the weekend or a little after discussing Diabetes. It's all brand new to me and it's something I think I'd like to tackle in my amateur journalist way. I've done a bit for the Beeb before (Radio 5). If you want to send a mail or audio hello, send it to paul@podcastpaul.com I'm sure that it might benefit some listeners - I get around 50,000 per month from all over the world. I'm sure that people with diabetes who are not even aware will be listening.

Hi Paul, it's very nice to 'meet' you. I too have found this site extremely helpful and it's so nice to speak to people who understand what you're talking about.

I am Allison, 39 years old with type 1, living in Sheffield with my husband and three children, aged 10, 8 and 14 months (yes, there's a big gap but she wasn't a mistake!) A scruffy outdoor cat called Alice. I'm an NHS Manager and work for Sheffield PCT so am really interested to read peoples opinions of their GPs and Diabetes teams on this site. Personally I've had excellent diabetes care and although it was a shock being diagnosed (about 7 years ago) I can genuinely now say that I don't live with diabetes, it lives with me!

Looking forward to lots more chat!

I wish I had the same nice things to say about my GP / local NHS.

We seem to be the same age, amd as for the kids - Sue and I decided to stop at 2 ! I can guarantee we've stopped now, absolutely guarantee!

I'm intrigued by the different backgrounds and locations of people who gel so instantaneously. I have a feeling that we'll make some great mates in here.

I wonder if there's ever an opportunity for a chat room when people's friendships are fostered?

I'm Diane, aged 35 with type 2 diabetes. I was diagnosed in April this year, have lost 3 stone in weight so far, my HbA1c is now done to 5.7 and very much in control.

I have had the best care from my specialist, GP and diabetic nurses. I see my specialist once a month as me and my partner are trying to start a family. (We had to put it on hold for 6 months when I was first diagnosed).

I would love to help anyone in need, even if it is just an ear they need.

I'm Angela and im 20 years old.I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes almost 2 years ago now after moving away to uni to study food, nutrition and health of all things lol. I love listening to music and socialising with my friends

hi there.im emma from bridgend south wales.i was diagnosed four and a half years ago.im married with 3 teenage children(2 girls and a boy) and am keeping the hair colour fims in bizz..lol.
i work as a health care assistant at my local hospital on a rehab ward so am all to aware of the complications of diabetes but think this helped me as ive lost four stone in last 2 years and am now a healthy weight.
im a season ticket holder for cardiff city(its a passion..lol)and go to most home games shifts permitting.
i am sitting here awaiting a call from my diabetic nurse to arrange an appoint as im being switiched to basal bolus regime and this time last week this worried me but thanks to this wonderful website i say "bring it on"
as for a chat room there is 1 on diabetes uk paul i found it last night but sadly could talk for long as i had to go to work.u have to register 1st but its all free

Hey Paul - The 'newbies - say hello here!' section on the messageboard is where people tell you about themselves - try reading in there! People will only tell you as much as they want to! lol, im happy to answer any diet questions as best as i can its what i wanna do when I graduate!

Bluebird i am on a basal bolus regime and although it was daunting at first i wish id done it sooner when my nurse first suggested it as it helped me alot with my blood sugars. Good luck
 
ty ang..ive heard nothing but positives from listening to evryone in here and im sure it will fit in better with my busy lifestyle.🙂

Confused Paul - in your first post you say you have four kids - are the other two stepchildren or did your forget about them?!
 
He probably forgot about them...Its this diabetic thing again...the memory.......hummm who am I and where am I? :D
 
What nice people you all are!! This site is definitely the best! I'm Pat, one of the 'mouldie oldies'!! I'm 61 and retired last year. Married for 42 years to David who until last year must have been the UK's oldest 'squaddie'!!! He retired after 42 years in the army last year. I was diagnosed 2 -3 years ago (can't remember!) and am not very good at being diabetic! Hate taking my tablets and have tried to ignore it for ages. Since finding this site am trying to be more responsible and behave myself!!!! Its really nice to meet you all.
 
Hi Diane, I was diagnosed a few weeks ago and still in shock, I imagine. Nice to "Hear" from others in the same position.
 
Oops! I meant to say Sue and I had agreed to stop at 2 kids, that was the initial plan.... the other two just 'happened' and I'm dead pleased they did!

So, I have four kids - all mine, all paid for!

Nice to see everyone else on here too by the way. I've been off the Forum playing Scrabble with my mum and dad - blimey, that makes me sound like I'm around 14! I would like to point out that I won all three games though!
