Can anyone help me understand this please

I have a telephone appointment tomorrow with a diabetic specialist nurse. I am wandering why I can’t get my blood sugar in range and control no matter what I do it take. I’m classed as type1.5 treated as type 2 and on Sunday my levels reached over 20 and I felt awful I did everything right took all my meds was drinking loads and countless toilet trips.

What type of things can I ask at this appointment what can they do so this isn’t a pointless call that’s what I’m thinking it will be.

Can things be getting worse as I have never been like this in all the years I have been diabetic could they have got the diagnosis wrong

Can someone please help as I’m going out of my mind my fingers are so sore from testing yet I don’t qualify for a CGM as I’m not type 1

Are you on insulin @tracy1 ? If so, which insulins? Could you be about to be ill? That can cause high sugars.
Yes I’m on insuman twice a day 26 units morning 18 at night I’m also on a SGLT2 once a day no cold no infection so I’m at a loss

As you are classed as type1.5 which is a slow onset type1 then you are entitled to CGM etc., and it sounds as if you now need to be on insulin.
This diabetes specialist nurse iss/he from your GP surgery or the hospital?
If no insulin prescribed then insist you are referred urgently to the hospital.
I'm saying all this with the assumption you are not on insulin at the moment.

I don't know much about type 1.5, but I thought it was common for it eventually to be like type 1 (in which case you'd be on insulin and would qualify for a CGM)?

OK so you are only on a basal insulin, which is as good as useless as you are basically type1 so you need a bolus insulin as well.

I think you should ask for a basal/bolus insulin regime - a basal insulin and a bolus insulin that you take before meals.

It’s clear that your current regime isn’t working well for you, so I think you should be a bit pushy/firm and ask to change. If you’re being dealt with by your GP only, you could also ask about a referral to a hospital team. Type 1.5 and LADA are bandied about and sometimes used differently by different people, but in the end you deserve the insulins that would work best for you, whatever type you are.

I am on insulin two injections a day and a SGLT2. The nurse is from the hospital

But just a basal insulin by the sound of it. Adding a bolus (meal) insulin will help you control spikes from food.

Write down a list of questions and things you want to discuss with the nurse. It’s so easy to forget when you’re speaking to them.

Do you know why you think you’re type 1.5 and not t2? Have you been advised you’re type 1,5 by the hospital?

It looks like your last postings were a c peptide test of 584, done a number of years after diagnosis, and so higher than would be normal for t1 at that point (unless it was on a different scale to the one i saw perhaps). Could it be that you’re classified as t2 because of the cpeptide results and so that’s why you’re on a t2 regime and not eligible for libre?

It is what my consultant at the hospital has put me down as type 1.5 treated as type type 2

I’m assuming they performed antibody tests? If your not sure then ask. I’m a 1.5 with positive antibodies for GAD but saying that there is still talk of me being a type 2. It’s a bit of a grey area I’m afraid. I have normal cpeptide result also
