Hi Everyone,

Newbie here. Just wanted some advice to what everyone does with their used needles when they are out and about. I change my needle every time I inject, so I end up with 3 used needles a day when I am out of the house.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Nix 🙂

i just leave them in the pencil case I carry my insulin pens around in and dispose of them at home. there is a device that takes the needles off which you can get on prescription.

I put them in my bag (putting the used needle into the case that the new needle has come out of) and always intend to dispose of them when I get home the same day..........................but sometimes get a shock when I realise that I've left them in my bag for several days, I'm great at collecting clutter🙄

Lots of us, me included, don't change needles each time, which means far fewer needles to deal with. I have never had any problems with infection or pain, so it works for me and I prefer not to use more resources, NHS or environmental, than necessary, but it's an individual choice. Otherwise, BD Safe Clip is available on prescription - see http://www.bddiabetes.co.uk/cgi-bin...DC+Documents/C6FEBF8F030E229300256E3500606972 for information

I just put the case it came out of back on it and keep it in my bag until I get home.

Hi Diabetic Nix

With Nathan, when we are out I tend to use either the BD Safe Clip or put them in the inside pocket of his blood monitor case till we get home and then put them in the sharps bin

i tend to change my needles everytime i inject to and found it to be a problem as to where to store them. i now use a little pencil case to carry all my used things in as i change lancets everytime i test to.

As Copeod says, lots of us don't change needles every time we inject. I change mine once a day, as advised on the DAFNE course, never had any problems with this, and sometimes forget and use the same needle for two days.
