I was checking my twitter feed when up popped this from Dr Christian Jessen

Which made me curious as to what these other reasons are. Doing some googling it looks like there are quite a few. I came across a few tables which list some of them:

Is it just me that never realised there were many other causes for high and low HbA1cs other than BG levels

As the saying goes, you learn something everyday.

I was on a very high dose of Aspirin for several months - 900mg three times a day, for damage to my heart. However, it didn't appear to affect my HbA1c at all. It is just creeping up all the time.

Interesting... I have an iron deficiency, which I told my consultant about and she told me not to take my iron tablets - so if my hba1c is high I'm going to question it... I also had a massive blood transfusion when my blood didn't clot during major surgery and I was in intensive care, and my hba1c after was the lowest it's ever been despite me expecting it to be higher due to stress and the severe trauma of it all - that makes sense now!

Thanks for sharing 🙂
