Hi to all,

Doc has given me orlistat for weightloss so been having them 3x perday so lost some more weight.

One day i forgot my insulin in morning n when i checked my bs i thought thats low 6.7 realizing i had only had orlistat & no insulin wonder if orlistat can be used instead of insulin to lower bs.

What do you think i am going to see doc later she what he says i find this unusual as i wouldnt have thought it supposed to do this find out something new everyday.

Hi. It's quite possible the insulin is doing very little. With a lot of excess weight you will almost certainly have insulin resistance and may be have a lot of your own insulin in the blood that can't be used properly. Adding insulin to that if true would not have much effect. A low carb diet should help with the weight loss and BS as well as the Orlistat

Years ago I was put on Orlistat, under medical supervision.

Did very little for me as even way back then, I ate almost no fat at all, and few carbs.

Orlistat is supposed, or it was then, to stick to the fats you consume.

Unless you consume fats to some degree, from my experience Orlistat may not be for you.

Talk to to your diabetic team about trying to lose weight - you may be considered for Victoza, an additional insulin injection with helps with weight loss

Hi Hazel,

I was put on victoza last year @t hosp it did absolutley nothing for me @all so its not an optition for me i am afraid.
When i go to my next d appointment i am going to ask to change insulin to differant one as novomix not taking my bs down @ all its absolutley useless in my opinion.

That's a real shame Irene

I have lost over 6 stone in the last 8 or 9 months, still losing

Attending Slimming World, sticking to it.
I do not think, for me anyway, Victoza wpuld have worked without Slimming World.

Good luck on your journey

Good luck Irene, I hope that it works as well for you as it is doing for @Hazel 🙂

Hi. I note that you haven't said what sort of diet you are having. It's important to keep the carbs down and probably below 150gm/day or less if possible. Be aware that SW diets can be all things to all people. Make sure that whatever SW diet you have that it's not carb-heavy. Proteins and fats will keep you feeling full and reduce the craving for carbs we all have.
