Opinions on meter makes

Bit of a general discussion topoc. So I had a contour next meter given to me the one with the flashy colours on it. It links to an app you download for your phone and chucks out pretty line graphs and stuff. I'm fairly newly diagnosed so I don't have much experience with meters. Just wondered what everyone else uses and if you have a favourite?

I've got a Contour Next and have been very happy with it 🙂 However, much depends on whether you get strips prescribed or if you have to pay for them. I think the strips for the Contour are £25-£30 for 50, but a lot of people who fund themselves use the SD Codefree Meter which has test strips at around £8 for 50 - quite a difference! 😱 In terms of accuracy they all have to conform to certain minimum standards, so that shouldn't be a factor.

Love the contour next USB, but can't get test strips on prescription, also love the Accu-cheek mobile for when out and about again can't get the test cassettes for it. To fund meters like these the strips are like £25+ for a pot of 50.

For type 2's that can get strips on prescription are likely to be given meters that cost the NHS around £10 or less for a pot of 50, a couple of these meters are the Glucomen Areo or GM and the Jazz meters.

If self funding then the most popular is the SD code free where the strips are around £8 for a pot of 50.

I currently use the Glucomen Areo which has NFC to work with a mobile phone and software which gives you graphs and some other info, very handy when you go and see the diabetic nurse, that is if they even approve of type 2's using a meter.
