Educating myself ahead of my next endo review: I have an atypical type 2 and been on metformin PR for a few months with no issues, but also no effect so far. Since I am now steroid-dependent, endos and DNS feel I need something more. I am currently on gliclazide, but both specialists seem to feel this is not the right drug longer term, and have already asked to half my dose to reduce risk of hypos. They mentioned DPP4 and SGLT2.

Any experiences or things I should be aware of or ask about? A big concern for me is that both types seem associated with increased risk of UTIs, and as I have a terrible history with this that could be a major problem.

TIA, Rikke

I was on Sitagliptin together with Gliclazide for a couple of years. The former helps to reduce BS spikes. If you get the Gliclazide dose right and it keeps your BS under control there isn't a strong reason to move away from it but one of the newer drugs may be preferred such as SGLT2

No personal experience of complications with my glic unless I don’t drink at least 3l water a day, a friend has more complex uti and kidney infection history and now can not have several of the newer meds that like gliclazide make you excrete sugar in your urine so definitely mention your history when discussing meds again.
