Every blood test I have had the results have been given as MMOL, not percentage. I used to convert them from a chart to post on here but then changed my signature to reflect the MMOL result.

So, last few tests have come back at 38 which is really good. Even though I expected them to increase they didn't. So, I have relaxed. A lot.

Rang for the results this morning to be told the blood glucose was 9.2. I asked what the other figure is, the MMOL but that has not been noted. Also am deficient in Vitamin D and told to pick up the scrip the nurse has prepared. Reading up about Vit D deficiency there is a warning that people on certain drugs need to take care and I am on one of those drugs for blood pressure.

Oh dear, I don't really trust this nurse at all.

The cholesterol result is recorded as 'normal' no breakdown.

It is obviously not her fault I have relaxed far too much. That is down to me. My weight is still OK but I really do have to start refusing the biscuits and cakes and saying that actually yes they will do some harm.

There again, this time I had my breakfast before going for the blood test.

Mmmmmmmm

Oh dear Marg, I think I am going to have to give you a stern talking to in Manchester! Sorry to hear the result, but I think you know what you need to do and I am sure you will get back to those good numbers by the time of your next test 🙂

Sorry to hear that Marg. I am sure you will be back on track very soon. Katie

Oh no! 😱 But you know with keeping a beedy eye on yourself you can get back on track x

I know. Have an appointment with the practice nurse later in the month and am going to ask about monitoring. So far she has been very dismissive and just said there is no need for T2 to monitor but I think with this result, monitoring would have helped.

I know I have relaxed but thinking about it, I am not exactly eating chocolate bars every day or sweets. I just don't eat that stuff any more. I do take a biscuit when offered and a slice of cake but you try going to Ireland and getting away with not accepting that stuff when visiting!! The housekeeper in Fr Ted always come to mind, aw go on, go on, go on.

My level was not that high when diagnosed so am now puzzling.

Are you sure they told you your HbA1c and not just your blood glucose? Maybe it's not as bad as you think! I'm feeling optimistic🙂

I am not sure at all. I have never been told a blood glucose figure before - are they quite different? If so, what is a 'normal' level for blood glucose?

Fingers crossed it is another reading!

HbA1c information here: http://www.diabetes.org.uk/Guide-to.../Glycated_haemoglobin_HbA1c_and_fructosamine/

Blood glucose levels depend on whether fasting / after meal etc - targets & units are here: http://www.diabetes.org.uk/Guide-to...ose_targets/?gclid=CJW_27LKurMCFerItAodoBoA5w

Part of the problem is when people, whether health professionals, secretaries or patients give numbers without stating units and / or meaning, as units help to narrow down possibilities of what is being measured, but still don't confirm whether fasting etc.

Anyway, hope you manage to work it out eventually, MargB. 🙂

MargB on the bright side.
Your comment about Vit D deficiency started a conversation (and a fair bit of googling)last night about my mother in law who since going on blood pressure tablets has suffered some terrible symptoms. The result was a conversation with her GP this morning and her prescription being changed.

So your poor hba1c has at least helped somebody else, so thanks for sharing. If we can make it to manchester we will get you a drink.

And breathe!!!!!

Phoned the practice after the wonderful Julia said we may not be talking about the same thing and after going through the results again, my figure for Haemoglobin is ..... 36 - YAY!!!!! That means it has actually gone down even though I have relaxed.

That is, if the haemoglobin figure is HbA1C - pretty sure it is.

Oh my word, I am so relieved. 9.2 was scarey but also confusing as the practice has never, ever given the percentage figure.

Ypauly, glad my vit D problem has helped someone else. Reading up on it I can see it has been a problem for a while. My kitchen is full of practically every model of tin opener going as I just cannot open tins anymore. Have had to buy an electric tin opener as I just do not have the strength/grip. Have always had to use gadgets for opening jars but did not used to have problems with tins. Apparently, loss of grip is one of the symptoms! It never occurred to me to go to the doc and say anything. The only reason I mentioned it to the nurse when having my bloods taken was because my finger nails are always splitting and breaking. Try to take a lid off anything with a finger nail and it splits halfway down the nail and has to be protected by plasters. I thought there was something lacking in my diet but could not think what it could be.

Sooooo relieved!

Thank goodness Margaret, was gonna ask if they had given you the right figure lol x

That's better!!!🙂

Thanks everyone - it didn't surprise me when I thought the figure had increased but it then shocked me when I worked out it had more than doubled. I have relaxed but I haven't given up! It didn't make sense but I should have known when they said "9.2" as that is not the way they record the HbA1C figures. It also puzzled me that I was not being called back in for another blood test.

So, I could relax even more - but Slimming World pals would not be happy!
