just got told my hba1c is at 9.9
bloody great ??
got an appointment on the 16th hopefully will sort it out.

Oh urrrghh.

Do you know why though?

Not the end of the world.

As TW says, if you can work out what's happening and when (diary !) you can target each bit one at a time and bring it back into sensible land slowly.

If you can come on here every so often and report back, you may find it helps to keep you focused and we can try and suggest a few shortcuts. I still pick up tips from threads.

Hope the appointment is positive. 🙂

its because i've started work and i haven't been dealing with balancing the diabetes very well. trying to keep my levels at a decent level without going hypo during work its difficult so ive just been making them go high to deal with each shift then bringing them down afterwards.

Understandable. I'm sure we've all done similar. Ok (ish) for occasional but obv causes major probs when it's regular.

Hopefully you can discuss how to get round it with your consultant.

Would you consider a pump as an option ? You could set temporary basals and avoid all the hassle of jabbing. Just a thought to bounce around.🙂

Rob

rather inject than have the pump to be honest! haha.

Sounds like you're already on the way to improving your situation, Estellaa. Acknowledging that your HbA1c is too high, plus having a handle on why (starting work) is a good start.

Good luck with your appointment on 16th Jan. Remember to take any records / notes etc that you have. It's probably a question of adjusting basal doses and choosing slow release carbohydrates before shifts, but your team and you can sort it out together.

I know what you mean about prefering injections (MDI) to pump - I've never had a HbA1c above 7.8%, and usually a fair bit lower, despite never having had any carb counting training, and no internet either when diagnosed in 1997. But if MDI didn't work for me and my very unpredictable lifestyle, both work shifts and leisure activities, then I would consider a pump, but doubt it could cope with the mud and water I regularly encounter when kayaking, adventure racing etc.

Is it easier to keep levels higher at work..........?

You should go in for a shift armed with hypo resolve and take the right amount of insulin for your previous meal to see what effect that shift had on your blood sugar, if it drops, that's OK, but at least you will know how much, and can move forward from there......

You work a back shift if I remember correctly, so before evening meal till late...?

the shifts i work vary, they can be early in the morning, afternoon or evening so its difficult lol.
