Only a handful of MPs turned out to a Parliamentary debate yesterday on safe nurse staffing.

The debate on nurse recruitment and retention was triggered after two petitions gathered more than 200,000 signatures from healthcare staff, patients and members of the public.

It comes after Boris Johnson pledged 50,000 more nurses for the NHS.

Last year, the number of nursing vacancies in England reached its highest ever recorded level.

The session was attended by the newly appointed minister for care at the Department of Health and Social Care Helen Whately who admitted issues with staffing but was adamant it was being dealt with.

It does not surprise me really but there are less than even i would have thought. I remeber last year counting less than 20 debating knife crime. I could not see all the MPS in the photo , but I recognised at least one of them as an Irish DUP.

You want to try getting some local MPs interested in Health events - ours simply choses to ignore such things. Another local one not only came to the Prostate Cancer event we (a Prostate Cancer Charity my husband and I are Trustees of) held in his constituency, he also had a blood test himself (though we did let him jump the queue so some photos could be taken, which we explained and apologised for to the queue, who were perfectly OK with it) but he also put an article and a photo of himself having it done on his own website and in the local paper to give us some extra free advertising, brilliant.

It does not appear to make any difference what political party they represent - either the individuals support such things or they don't.

Well my local MP is always trying to promote herself on Twitter in how wonderful she is, and what she thinks she is doing for us. Not one of her team even came round my close. My husband and friend had to drag me away, when one of them asked me for number on the way out of the polling station, as was going to give them a piece of mind. I was cross as it is a safe seat I thought they were taking us voters for granted.
