I find some magazines almost impossible to read when a very dark background is used.
Over the past decade or so, some dyslexic pupils have found using coloured backgrounds rather than white helpful in examinations - these scripts cannot then be scanned for online marking, but need to be marked as paper scripts in the old-fashioned way. My pet hate is blue pen on dark blue paper! It might help the candidate, but totally stresses out the poor examiner.
