** The survey has now closed, thank-you to everyone who participated **

Researchers at the University of Surrey are looking at the relationships between alcohol consumption and other lifestyle factors in people with Type 2 Diabetes.

We would like to invite people with Type 2 Diabetes to complete an online survey of around 15-20 minutes. The survey will ask questions about alcohol consumption, lifestyle behaviours, and psychological wellbeing. Participants must be aged 16 or over, living in the UK, and able to read and understand written English.

This study has been reviewed by and received a favourable ethical opinion from the University of Surrey’s Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences Ethics Committee.

Participating in this survey will give you the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win one of ten £20 Love2Shop vouchers.

Click here to access the survey!

For more information or any questions, please contact the lead researcher, Sophie Catt (s.catt@surrey.ac.uk).

(A copy of the Ethics Committee approval letter has been sent for approval to the forum team)

Did the survey. Might not be much help, I only drink at Christmas and even then I only really like Snowballs, Babycham or Sherry. :D I wish I felt the same way about food ie could take it or leave it. 🙄

Thanks Lin!

Thanks Ditto - we're looking for the whole spectrum of drinkers and non-drinkers so it's definitely still useful 🙂

Done!
Answering "No" to following dietary advice from HCPs isn't necessarily a bad thing if the advice is rubbish, eg eat more wholegrains and stick to low fat!

Thank-you for completing it! And that's a really good point about advice from HCPs. The questionnaires used are standardised ones used across research studies, so I can't change specific questions, but it's an important thing for me to think about when I'm looking at the results.

Thanks very much :D

Still in need of more participants!

The study seems to be taking less than 10 minutes for most participants, and can be completed on smartphones, tablets (including iPads) and computers, so it shouldn't be too much of an inconvenience 🙂

Done. I don’t and never have drunk alcohol so I hope I’m still useful.

Done. I only drank alcohol on special occasions, Christmas, before becoming diabetic as I never really acquired the taste: yuck!:( Then, after being diabetic & the added complications of lowering blood sugars for a prolonged time after I'm tee total now & haven't touched it in 15+ years.

I'm going to try and do it but I really really hate that the info is in a grey font on a white background - which seems the trendy default these days. I find it hard to read, so I may give up before the end in despair 🙄

Ok, done, but my eyeballs really cheered up when the picture of different coloured drinks came on!

[tangent]
So I'm making a joke, but I'm increasingly finding that online stuff is in wretched pale fonts on a pale background, and although my eyesight is good it sometimes (like with the survey here) finds it a strain. Ok, rant over.[/tangent]

Thanks Madeline and Lanny! I'm hoping to have participants across the whole spectrum of alcohol consumption, so it's useful to get teetotallers as well as people who drink 🙂

Thanks Pine Marten - for both doing the survey and for your feedback on how it's presented. Glad you liked the pictures!

Done it, and agree with pinemartingabout colour scheme. Black on white works a treat, why muck about with it.
