ONE in six people who turns to the internet with a health problem is risking serious illness and even death, research reveals.
A study has found half of all patients go online for advice before visiting their doctor, creating a nightmare for the NHS.
The research showed that 17 per cent of patients wrongly diagnosed their illness on the internet.
Ann Robinson, director of public awareness at the government-funded Information Standard, which certifies health advice, said: ?We are all too ready to go online and self-diagnose.
?It is potentially very dangerous as there is unreliable health information on the internet.
